Trump Declares War on Fellow Citizens

Responding with music challenges authority and conveys hope

We have violence in the streets because the President of the United States has officially declared war on African-Americans. It’s merely an official declaration. Sadly, African-Americans have had white knees on their necks for hundreds of years.

The responses of citizens to an enemy within the Oval Office is a simple act of saying “Enough is enough!”

Sadly, it’s a rerun. Those of us old enough to recall the 1960s have seen this before. Of the many responses then, one of the most effective came from musicians. They took quite seriously their roles as social critics.

Therefore, so long as protest is required, we’ll be posting links to some songs from that time period or that are relevant in other ways so that as you work for justice, you know that others have come before you. They too, were angry. Their emotions were channeled properly. Perhaps they will inspire you to use your talents and time constructively as you stand your ground against injustice.

Our first selections are:

“For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield

“War” by Bob Marley and the Wailers
