The New Era

I am thrilled to list the following open mic opportunities in our area. I make these open mic nights every chance I get. It is always fun to hear original material, hang out with pickin’ buddies, and meet new musicians who may be passing through or relocating to our area. The venues that support open mic nights tend to have the best hospitality and community awareness.

John Boy of the famous duo, John Boy and Lefty, hosts an open mic at the Happy Valley Filling Station every Sunday from 4 pm until 7 pm. John Boy is a songwriter and roots musician who really enjoys hearing all kinds of music. This open mic has a welcoming vibe and the Happy Valley Filling Station has wood fired pizza and cold libations to keep you fueled up for the music.

Our friends, The Benson, are in their third year of hosting open mic at Liquid Roots in lovely downtown Lenoir from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm on Wednesday evenings. It is a wonderfully welcoming open mic and you will certainly enjoy yourself. Just bring your axe and your mic to get in the game!

Will Willis is hosting an Open Mic at Appalachian Mountain Brewery and Cidery each Wednesday from 7 pm until 10 pm. Many of you know Will from his solo work and his work with the Older Brothers. I met Will at a jam he was hosting years ago and I remain impressed with his pure love of music. He listens, creates, and performs with an artistic sensibility that is rare in today’s world. Make it a point to meet Will if you haven’t already. You may find more information here:   (7) Will Willis | Facebook, (7) Appalachian Mountain Brewery and Cidery | Facebook

Michael Cansler will be hosting a singer-songwriter night on the first Tuesday of each month in the Crescent Moon in Hickory starting December 7. Please see this link for details:
