Halt the Harm to Host Webinar April 2 with PSR and West Virginia Rivers about Forever Chemicals

WESTON, W.Va. – As I reported on March 27, a new report reveals that between 2013 and 2022, oil and gas companies used the extremely toxic and  persistent chemicals known as PFAS in West Virginia’s horizontal gas wells, the type of wells  responsible for most of the state’s gas production.

The report, by Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR), further documents that companies also injected  those wells with almost 70 million pounds of undisclosed “trade secret” chemicals that could include  additional PFAS.

In response, a webinar will be held tomorrow, April 2 at noon EDT to provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about the issue and how to respond. It will be hosted by Halt the Harm in partnership with PSR and West Virginia Rivers.

Speakers will include report lead author Dusty Horwitt, J.D.; report co-author and Director of PSR’s Environment and Health Program Barbara Gottlieb; Jill Hunkler, a grassroots organizer and the founder of Ohio Valley Allies, a community and environmental advocacy organization; Linda Aller, a hydro-geologist who has been consulting on PFAS issues since 2002 and has worked to protect people from PFAS pollution associated with the chemical factory in Parkersburg formerly run by Dupont and now operated by Chemours; and Jenna Dodson, a Staff Scientist with West Virginia Rivers.
