Signs of the Times: Lenoir and Surrounding Citizens Say NO! to King Trump at No Kings Protest

LENOIR, N.C. – As we reported on Sunday, about 300 people turned out in Lenoir as part of the nationwide “No Kings” demonstration. Its purpose is to resist Donald Trump’s authoritarian Administration. Lenoir is located in Western North Carolina. It is the county seat of Caldwell County in Southern Appalachia.

People sang the Star Spangled Banner. Patriotic hymns were interspersed with protest songs. They stood and respectfully recited the Pledge of Allegiance, removing their hats and observing flag etiquette – unlike the half a dozen or so pro-Trump counter-protesters across the street. Several people spoke. As people gathered on the Town Square and sidewalks there was a festival feel.

More on the day’s speakers and topics will follow in a subsequent article. Today, we let the camera lens tell the story. A special thanks to the Rev. Susan Buchanan for sharing her photographs.
