LENOIR, N.C. – Caldwell County Musicians Terry Edwards and Bog Kogut will be hosting an acoustic Song Circle on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Grassroots Appalachia at 458-B Harper Avenue in Lenoir. It begins along about 6:30 p.m.
“Cranking up along about 6:30 p.m., this will be a casual, laid back, unplugged sharing and jamming on old material and new favorites. Bring your instruments or just your ears. This event is free to everyone who wants to enjoy an intimate setting for songwriters and pickers to share their talents. Donations to Grassroots Appalachia will be welcomed. Terry Edwards
Edwards and Kogut have played together often and for quite a while, yet both have made incredible contributions to music in the area and around the world – Edwards from his fifty-plus years of playing across the nation to Kogut’s prolific work as a fiddle maker that has his fiddles spread around the globe. He recently completed his 320th fiddle. Edwards, inspired by singer-songwriter Harry Chapin, has spent his musical career writing and playing his own music, alone and with others.
Kogut is honored by the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area for his fiddle making. Also, according to the Blue Ridge Heritage website, “In addition to building violins, Bob is known in the area as an accomplished fiddler and trusty sideman.” It adds, “Bob has played fiddle with many area bands, including The Neighbors, The Kruger Brothers, Wild Goose Chase, Musica Nostra, and Down the Hall. … He uses performing and playing engagements as opportunities to test out his newest instruments.” A teacher of violin set up and repair, he is also a sponsor of Merlefest, which auctions off one of his violins each year. Kogut is also in the Wilkes Heritage Museum Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame as a Luthier.

As the owner of Grassroots Appalachia – and as a music lover – I couldn’t be more pleased that Terry, Bob and many of their friends will gather in our space. We intentionally arranged it to be a relaxed listening space for acoustic music in an environment where the audience is fully engaged. I hope to see you there!
